Travel Image It has always been a dream of mine to visit Victoria Falls and initially I was going to visit on the Zambia side due to the problems in Zimbabwe, but the best laid plans of mice and men, do not always turn out the way you ant them to! With the break down on the eve of departure of all travel arrangements internally within the South African trip, last minute bookings were made in South Africa and it was to the Zimbabwe side that the accommodation was available. So, of Meghan and I went, flying up and landing after 1 hour or so out of Johannesburg. We stayed at the Victoria Falls Lodge, located just out of town and a nice place it was as well. Not too many amenities and some shortages here and there, but nothing like the people were suffering in town. It was hard walking through the town and not being able to give everybody some money, but then again, we are not here to save the world, and it is a bit like India where the multitude of poor is just staggering.

The lodge itself was quite nice as I said, with a view over looking the countryside and a watering hole, so every evening it was at the Bar on the deck watching various animals come to graze at the pond. Not quite your safari tent style, but a nice way to spend a few days. Not much to buy in the town and we found better bargains over the Zambia side I must admit, picking up a couple of nice masks and some other souvenirs. A good trip over all and we managed to see what we came for, which was Victoria Falls in all their glory - a sight well worth while the travel to go and see!
